Placing pen to paper is an art often thought to be reserved for the thinkers among us. Bright men and women with ideas abound, sharing knowledge through carefully worded prose; The rest of us reading in awe.

Turns out, the thinkers are no different than us. They simply have the courage to place their pen on a piece of paper rich with possibilities. Enter morning pages.

Morning pages is the courageous step of putting pen to paper — writing a stream of consciousness until the well is dry, followed by a review. Pulling out the highlighters, searching for nuggets of truth, of true clarity that hold value outside the release of writing ones thoughts. These nuggets are what I call “the left overs”. Moments of unintentional wisdom needing further exploration.

The left overs are a chance to dig in. A chance to hash out the best and brightest of your subconscious. A moment to analyze thoughts as they come.

Often the left overs lead to nothing. Sometimes they spark intense exploration. The value is in the excitement of the discovery.
